What is Fasting?

Fasting is a powerful spiritual activity.

What is Fasting? Fasting is a powerful spiritual activity.

In the Gospels of Matthew, Luke and Mark it records Jesus informing the disciples with a truth that; His believers will fast after His ascension to heaven:

“Then the disciples of John [the Baptist] came to Jesus, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees often fast [as a religious exercise], but Your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus replied to them, “Can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. But no one puts a piece of unshrunk (new) cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and a worse tear results. Nor is new wine put into old wineskins [that have lost their elasticity]; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the [fermenting] wine spills and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, so both are preserved.”” (MATTHEW 9:14-17 AMP)

“But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.” (Mark 2:20 NKJV)

“But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them; then they will fast in those days.”” (Luke 5:35 NKJV)

The bridegroom represents Himself (Jesus) and the guests of the bridegroom represent Christians.

Then Jesus uses the examples of old versus new wineskins, He is saying that the reasons for fasting under the New Covenant of Grace are different from the reasons for fasting under the Law, and that we cannot approach the things of Grace with an Old Covenant, Law-based mindset. Attempting to fast legalistically will lead to fruitlessness. Apostle Len Wess says, "It’s just voluntary starvation and a self motivated hunger strike." There is no legalistic, fixed routine to follow when fasting

Take a look at this example that Jesus gave:

“He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves and were confident that they were righteous [posing outwardly as upright and in right standing with God], and who viewed others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple [enclosure] to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood [ostentatiously] and began praying to himself [in a self-righteous way, saying]: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like the rest of men--swindlers, unjust (dishonest), adulterers--or even like this tax collector. ~‘I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’” (LUKE 18:9-12 AMP)

Here we find that the Pharisee practices a legalistic way of fasting: he does it twice a week, but the motivation is to have an outward appearance of holiness.

This will not be our approach. We (GCCI) will follow the leading of the Holy Spirit:

“For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” (ROMANS 8:14 AMP)

“But if you are guided and led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the Law.” (GALATIANS 5:18 AMP)

Thank you for joining us in fasting and prayer for our nation from the intent of the evil assignment that is operating as you read this message. As we fast, Apostle and I will share what the leading of the Holy Spirit gives us to fight for. When the Lord speaks to you, please share with us what He as said.

✓ #1. So I must explain that this fast IS TO see the supernatural RELEASE of THE PEACE OF GOD THAT PASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING as we the Body of Christ RELEASE our God Given AUTHORITY over our City, State and Nations all over the world

✓ #2. We will call forth A DIVINE CHANGE in the way people are being treated. NEW LAWS, POLICIES and RULES CHANGED. We will change the atmosphere with the faith of God.

In others words IT IS NOT TO GET GOD TO DO SOMETHING. The finished work is for the Believer. It’s our God given right. However, we are fighting for PEACE FOR OUR NATION.

Let me explain.

As the body of Christ; We have and access to the Covenant blessing of peace: “the peace that passes all under standing.”

Read the NLT below of Philippians 4:1-8

1 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stay true to the Lord. I love you and long to see you, dear friends, for you are my joy and the crown I receive for my work.

Words of Encouragement

2 Now I appeal to Euodia and Syntyche. Please, because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement.
3 And I ask you, my true partner, to help these two women, for they worked hard with me in telling others the Good News. They worked along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are written in the Book of Life.

4 Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!
5 Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Also, 1 Peter 5:7 states we can cast our cares over on the Lord. But, we are not just covering the believer but the nations.

✓ We need and are petitioning the church of the Lord Jesus to use their God given authority for a divine intervention of SUPERNATURAL PEACE and DIVINE ORDER in the midst of unorganized confusion. As You know and can discern who is working because this is NOW not at all what it started out to be.

James 3:16  (ESV)

For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.
